RCD Hosts Major General Naseer Matar Al-Zubaidi, to Discuss Iraq's National Security Strategy
RCD held a panel discussion entitled "National Security in Iraq": Strategies and mechanisms of development " moderated by Dr. Aqeel Khaqani and attended by a group of security specialists and leaders in the political and academic affairs. Major General Naseer Al-Zubaidi, director general of the Iraqi Intelligence Services reviewed the political changes and the formation of the Iraqi state under the political process that began in 2003. He also reviewed the role of external factor and the change of political regimes through military coups and the current political system, as saying that “what concerns us at this phase is the cohesion and political stability, and that we should avoid the rapid changes process”.
He pointed out that one of the dilemmas that we face in the current phase, is the national identity and the spread of democratic culture, economic well-being and transitional period for democracy, explaining that the multiplicity of systems has created a lack of political and economic stability and crystallization of the political theory of the state.
Al-Zubaidi said the wars of the former regime have led to the destruction of economy, infrastructure and the position of Iraq as a strategic power in the region as well as the possibility of any real future and influence in the region due to poor cognition and the absence of strategic vision, mainly caused by terrorism, corruption and the failure in investing the national resources.
This Panel discussion is part of a series of important sessions organized by RCD at its headquarters in Najaf, which will then culminate in holding RCD Security and Economic Forum in Baghdad in September of this year.
