An Interview with the Head of the Supreme Judicial Council Mr. Faik Zaidan in the 8th session of RCD Forum 2019.

 

In an interview with President of Supreme Judicial Council, Mr. Faik Zaidan, in which he said  that we are still working on the legal terms that enacted in 1969, so we need new updates to keeping up with the present. This is why we have to provide alternative terms to the Committee to review the amendments.

Judge Zaidan added that the number of judges in Iraq is 1640, while our plans require that the number should be reached 2000 judges, pointing out that the process of preparing them is very complex, and the Judicial Council sought to establish an electronic contract in which the administrative procedures could be facilitate for the citizen by contacting then reach the judiciary. However, some media have been negatively dealt with the project due to misunderstanding of its importance in the correct manner and the need for its development.

Commenting on the issue of tribal law, the president of the Supreme Judicial Council said that this phenomenon has been increased in Baghdad and all the cities, pointed out that it was encouraged by the tribes and sheikhs to address the issue of "Al-Nahwa".  Answering  the questions of attendees, he said that the judiciary applies the law even if it is not convinced of some of its paragraphs, in reference to the participation of the judiciary in the results of the last elections, expressing his opposition to the Parliament's decision to involve the judiciary in such tasks. The committee that responsible for drafting the Iraqi constitution has made the judiciary deficient, such as linking the appointment of higher authorities in the judiciary by the vote of members of the House of Representatives.

Through a meaningful dialogue, RCD Forum was able to meet the aspirations of the attendees by listening and participating with the leadership of the judiciary, which is always try to facilitate the obstacles that face the political process and the executive authority for the benefit of the country and the citizen.
