Weekly Dialogue Summery – 9th Week
In addition, emphasize was placed on the breaches and corruption in the controls through which the custom fees are obtained. Moreover, there were discussions about the investments of the new American companies in Iraq, recalling the bad history of the security companies for not following the laws of the Iraqi Republic. Furthermore, there were different opinions about inviting Iraq to participate in the Arab-Islamic-American summit, which frankly skipped inviting the head of the Iraqi executive authority represented in the Prime Minister Dr. Haider Al-Abadi. Some members discussed about the negative effect of the absence of values in the society, and the reflections of the political development on the audience and its elites. Lastly, some see that today’s world agrees on state administration by institutions rather than by men as in the past.
Conclusions:
· A sudden and comprehensive transition to the open market economy is not possible because this cannot be achieved on the ground, and it is economically invalid as evidenced in the nature of the economic systems of several developed countries.
· There are negative changes in the system of values of Iraqi society due to many reasons, including economic and political ones.
· There is a lack of accurate mechanism to implement the process of collecting the custom fees, resulting in cases of corruptions and blackmailing citizens in addition to a considerable delay for vehicle traffic at the borders and controls.
Recommendations:
· The gradual and scientific transition to a market economy while keeping the state as a regulator and keeper of the economic sectors, most important of which is the services sector.
· The system of values of Iraqi society must be restructured and planned, whose most important pillar is disseminating the concept of trust on a societal level.
· The government must organize the process of collecting the custom fees in a professional way based on legal foundations, like other states of the world, in order to prevent cases of corruption, speed up vehicle traffic and avoid wasting the time, which has a value as well.
