Weekly Dialogue Summery – 54th Week
Despite the problems and harassments suffered by the Iraqi student during Baath party regime, the universities were like a miniature Iraq, where all Iraqi people meet from different cultures, making friendships and marriages that are beyond sectarianism or nationalism. In addition, the separation of Iraqi universities, the security conditions in the present time and the lack of communication of their students increased the feeling of alienation and divergence among the people of one homeland. Several universities started to express their doctrinal or nationalist identity. It can be said that this case is the result of several social, political and security factors faced by Iraq during the last fifteen years.
Conclusions:
· The students of the universities are the change makers in the political, social and developmental scene; however, they are excluded due to the chaos faced by the country on all levels, which affected the Iraqi student in taking his or her role in the society.
· Many media channels broadcast an implicit discourse that incites avoiding participation in the elections in general, and a factional discourse that urges some to participate in the elections.
· There is a gulf competition in opening up to Iraq and strengthening the relations with it, which indicates a change in the political courses in the region.
· The unbalance of the powers in managing the electoral competition will lead to the exploitation of the state’s resources by the governmental and financial power brokers.
· The secondary role of economy in the administration of the Iraqi state and prioritizing politics over it make the economy weak and does not have an effective role in moving politics.
Recommendations:
· The higher educational system must be advanced in general, and radical solutions must be found to break the spatial isolation and identity isolation suffered by the university students, and work through development perspective to revive the young potential role in the university.
· It is everyone’s duty to urge for the effective and conscious participation in the upcoming elections, and the Iraqi judiciary must take a firm position towards the ideologized satellite TV channels that belong to political parties and actors who work to confuse the audience.
· The Iraqi government must respond in a good and balanced way to the turnout of Gulf countries and work to exploit its location by investing the Gulf’s move perfectly.
· Manipulating the positions and government resources is clear and does not need an investigation to detect it; however, it needs strict and deterrent legal laws to prevent such kind of corruption.
· It is necessary to prioritize economy over politics or any other field, as economy is the main motivator of politics and its first spouse in all its plans and policies.
