Weekly Dialogue Summery – 84th Week
From a forward-looking perspective, the biggest challenge that the government of Dr. Adel Abdul Mahdi will face, is the sanctions imposed by the US on the Islamic Republic of Iran, which will lead to imposing a strict blockade on the Iranian oil sales and other various products. Moreover, all the companies and states dealing with Iraq economically will be cracked down after the application of the sanctions.
Conclusions:
· It is possible to exclude Iraq from the crackdown imposed by the US on the states that will deal with Iran economically.
· There are strong social and cultural bonds between the Iraqi and Iranian nations, in addition to the geographical bond represented in the common border that extend to more than 1200 km.
· The Iranian-American conflict in the region is one of the most important conflicts in the near future, and the American blockade on Iran will expose the entire region to a significant threat.
· Iraq needs more multiplicity and variety of the important Iranian supplies in the sectors of energy, goods and various products, which correct the consuming environment in Iraq.
· The US is indirectly urging Iraq to reciprocate to the demands of the sanctions imposed on Iran.
Recommendations:
· The new Iraqi government must work on managing this critical issue carefully and accurately, in a way that is commensurate with the common political and economic interests of the three parties.
· Iraq must support the Iranian people who will be affected by the sanctions to be imposed by the USA, and deal with Iran as a neighbor and a friend state.
· Iraq must distance itself from the new conflict cycle, commit to neutrality, and warn from the possibility of being an arena of a conflict whose events cannot be changed in the future.
· Iraq must work to keep the momentum of dealings with Iran in order to meet its necessary needs in the present time. In addition, it is necessary to develop a developmental plan to achieve the economic adequacy of Iraq in all aspects, and to open economic channels with other states.
· It is important to avoid the negative effects of the economic blockade on Iraq through providing a high concept of preserving the Iraqi sovereignty in dealing with the world’s states, especially Iran and the US.
