Weekly Dialogue Summery – 89th Week
What was mentioned matches -in a way or another- what has been happening in Iraq, through the problems and the real mess suffered by Iraq during the last years. What happens is no doubt the result of the external hands, including the invisible and visible. Some see that this is one of the modern ways to self-destroy the countries, without the need for an external militant power, or the use of classic intelligence methods.
Conclusions:
· Social media in Iraq is used to publish scandals and distract the public opinion, through electronic armies controlled by multi-affiliated bodies.
· There is a misunderstanding and overlapping in realizing freedoms in practice on one hand, and balancing them with the national security on the other hand. Also, there is no specified national priorities that protect the community rights before the individual.
· There are many campaigns on the social media aiming at defaming, vilifying and encroaching some bodies and personalities.
· The phenomenon of drug use and drug dealing is very dangerous as it is widespread, which threatens the youth class in the Iraqi society due to its entry from Iraq neighboring countries with huge quantities.
· Iraq needs to communicate academically more with the states of the world, as the current communication does not achieve the required development effectively in the various academic sectors.
Recommendations:
· All the legal bodies, civil society organizations and societal leaderships must work to fight and deterrent the media campaigns that drive the public opinion in wrong directions.
· It is necessary to create a clear balance between the general security of the country and the freedoms of the society’s individuals in a way that preserves the rights of the individual without affecting the security of the community.
· The freedom of expression must be within the frame of respecting the privacy and reputation of others according to the international laws for human rights, and an evidence must be provided when accusing any person or body.
· It is important for the government to tackle the issue of the easy entry of the drugs into Iraq from the surrounding states. In addition, it is necessary to study the social reasons that make the individuals use drugs.
· The Iraqi elites must use the digital media revolution as a mean to develop the academic sectors and the different disciplines.
