Al-Rafdain Center for Dialogue (RCD) hosted Professor Dr. Hassan Abbas, an expert in security and development affairs from the National Defense University (NDU) in the United States (Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies). The scholarly and discussion-based seminar, held at the Center's Al-Salam Hall, was titled "Models of Good Governance: Lessons and Morals" and was attended by an elite group of academics and researchers from various segments of Iraqi society.

In his lecture, Dr. Abbas discussed several topics, including the nature of the political systems Iraq has known and the problems and crises that have accompanied state-building from its founding to the period following the 2003 political change. He presented several questions and complexities associated with the Iraqi state, its political system, and the composition of Iraqi society. He also discussed the essence of good governance and its criteria, as outlined in modern studies and the publications of international organizations, chief among them the United Nations, citing several models, including those of Pakistan, India, and other experiences.

During the session, moderated by Dr. Ahmed Sami Al-Mamouri, Chairman of the Board of Advisors at the Center, attendees engaged in a discussion about the challenges facing the establishment of good governance in Iraq's post-2003 political landscape. They explored solutions and proposals for building a model of good governance in Iraq, discussing the most critical complexities and hypotheses. The conversation centered on a number of key criteria, including:

·        The supremacy of the law.

·        Equality before the law.

·        Accountability.

·        Justice in the application of the law.

·        The active participation of all of society's religious pluralities.
