Minister of Water Resources, Mr. Mahdi Rashid, Holds a Discussion Session at Al-Rafidain Center for Dialogue (RCD)

Regarding the sharing of water resources with Turkey and Iran, he stressed the importance of agreeing with both nations concerning the tributaries, the diversion of the Karun River's course, and the inflows of feeder rivers within the borders. He also emphasized the necessity of holding a meeting regarding the Ilisu Dam and linking this matter to the country's foreign policy.
In another context, Mr. al-Hamdani confirmed that his ministry is addressing the encroachments and violations occurring on the banks of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, as well as the dumping of riverine waste, which he deemed one of the major crimes against Iraq's water resources. He asserted that the ministry has begun taking legal action against violators in cooperation with the judiciary. The Minister also promised that during the current year, the ministry would commence the construction of a major dam in Basra Governorate, specifically in the Ras al-Bisha area, to eliminate saltwater intrusion, noting that this project will yield a very significant economic return.
In the press conference held by His Excellency, the Minister of Water Resources, accompanied by Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, Director of Al-Rafidain Center for Dialogue (RCD), Dr. Al-Zubaidi welcomed Mr. al-Hamdani's presence. He cited the importance of holding such specialized sessions at the Center to discuss various files and topics that serve the public interest, adding that the media plays a crucial role as a partner in these dialogues.
Following the session, the Minister directly attended to the needs and requests of several citizens, whose interviews with Mr. al-Hamdani were organized by Al-Rafidain Center for Dialogue (RCD) as part of the primary activities of his visit to the holy governorate of Najaf.
