EU Ambassador Martin Huth Discusses Iraqi-European Cooperation at RCD

A central theme of the symposium was Iraq's foreign relations, with an emphasis on the necessity for the nation to adopt a neutral stance. It was argued that Iraq should leverage its central location to become a meeting point for opposing sides and a state of positive neutrality. The Ambassador also addressed the Iraqi economy and the crises battering it, noting the government's efforts to tackle these challenges and the existing sluggishness in progress. The discussion identified points of failure and proposed initial solutions to address them, as well as the obstacles hindering their implementation. Furthermore, the dialogue covered development programs and the need for parliamentary engagement to provide the legal framework required to correct imbalances. The Ambassador also expressed his support for the Iraqi elections planned for the upcoming year, the establishment of programs to bolster the electoral process, and the need for them to be conducted in a conducive atmosphere on all levels.
In a subsequent press conference attended by Dr. Hassan Al-Zubaidi, Director of Al-Rafidain Center for Dialogue (RCD), His Excellency the Ambassador stressed that the European Union deals with Iraq as a sovereign, federal state. He affirmed the EU's belief in the right of the Iraqi people to manage their own affairs and resolve their problems independently, free from negative foreign interventions. He also highlighted the necessity of properly investing funds borrowed from abroad and overcoming the financial crises currently affecting the country.
