In a Ramadan evening session, Al-Rafidain Center for Dialogue (RCD) hosted Major General Dr. Omar Adnan al-Waili, Head of the Border Ports Commission. The dialogue, held at the Center's Sérgio Vieira de Mello Hall, was titled "Iraqi Border Ports: Towards an Efficient Security and Economic Strategy." Moderated by media personality Mohammed al-Momen and attended by a diverse group of academics and specialists, the session provided a comprehensive overview of the Commission's work. Major General al-Waili discussed the general legal frameworks, the Commission's founding stages, its operational and professional development, and its organizational structure and departments.

Dr. al-Waili focused on the challenges and problems facing the Commission's work. He highlighted the complex overlap between political and legal aspects, as well as threats posed by organized gangs and mafias. He particularly emphasized the danger of unofficial border crossings, which he described as a genuine threat to Iraq's economic, human, and health security. He also recounted some of the Commission's achievements across various Iraqi governorates in the recent period. The session featured numerous interventions and questions from the audience, which concentrated on professional and legal topics.

This seminar is part of the annual Ramadan evenings hosted by Al-Rafidain Center for Dialogue (RCD), aligning with its scientific and research activities and its mission to discuss the most significant political, economic, social, and cultural issues.
