Al-Rafidain Center for Dialogue (RCD) hosted His Excellency the Minister of Industry and Minerals, Engineer Prof. Dr. Khalid Battal al-Najm, in a dialogue seminar titled, "Paths for Developing the Industrial Sector in Iraq: Between the Ministry's Efforts and the Imperatives of Strengthening the Private Sector." The event was held at the Center's Sérgio Vieira de Mello Hall in Najaf. Moderated by media personality Mohammed al-Momen, the session was attended by academics, specialists, and media professionals.

His Excellency the Minister discussed a range of issues related to the ministry's work, particularly his strategy for its development, presenting its core tenets which are part of the official government program. He emphasized the need to study the ministry's current situation and to focus on large-scale industries. The Minister did not hide his opinion of the current industrial sector, describing it as nascent.

He also provided a historical analysis, stating that the decline of industries in Iraq began with the transition from the monarchical to the republican system and continued through the 1960s. Following the political change in 2003, he noted, the industrial sector witnessed an unprecedented collapse that has persisted in the years since.

His Excellency expressed his ministry's desire to cooperate with the private sector to foster its development, identifying a number of problems this sector currently faces. The Minister also conveyed the ministry's intention to introduce several reforms, perhaps the most important of which is the re-evaluation of partnership contracts.

This seminar is part of the annual Ramadan evenings hosted by Al-Rafidain Center for Dialogue (RCD), aligning with its scientific and research activities and its mission to discuss the most significant political, economic, social, and cultural issues concerning the Iraqi state.
