Al-Rafidain Center for Dialogue (RCD) held a discussion session titled, "Priorities of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a Changing Regional and International Environment." The event hosted His Excellency Ambassador Hisham Al-Alawi, the Ministry's Undersecretary for Political Planning. Moderated by media personality Mohammed al-Momen, the session took place at the Sérgio Vieira de Mello Hall in the Center's main headquarters in Najaf, with a diplomatic, academic, and social presence.

The Ambassador began his address by discussing the transformations the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has undergone since 2003, highlighting Iraq's return to its role as an active and responsible member of the international community and its continuation in this capacity despite ongoing challenges. The lecturer also noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs performs its duties in alignment with the current government's official program.

Navigating Regional and International Relations

Undersecretary Al-Alawi addressed various critical regional and international issues concerning Iraq. Prominent among these were:

·        The situation in Palestine and Lebanon following the "Al-Aqsa Flood" operation, and Iraq's explicit, clear, and unwavering position of rejecting the Zionist entity and the crimes against humanity it perpetrates.

·        Iraq's stance regarding Syria, Turkey, Iran, and the Gulf states.

International powers also featured in the Undersecretary's discussion, where he emphasized the importance of Iraq's relationship with them to diversify its relations and manage its interests.

This session is part of a series of meetings held by Al-Rafidain Center for Dialogue across all fields, particularly the political and diplomatic, to help define the importance of Iraq's regional and international role.
