Iraq-Korea Cooperation: RCD Hosts South Korean Ambassador in Najaf

Held at the Al-Salam Hall in the Center’s headquarters in the Holy City of Najaf, the session was moderated by journalist Wissam Rashid and attended by a distinguished gathering of intellectuals, academics, and media professionals.
Ambassador Lee reviewed the history of relations between the two nations dating back to the 1970s. He highlighted that the total volume of South Korean corporate projects in Iraq has reached approximately $45 billion. Key strategic initiatives include:
· Bismayah New City: The largest housing project in Iraq.
· Karbala Refinery: A crucial energy infrastructure project.
· Al-Faw Grand Port: A major developmental project for Iraq's economy.
The Ambassador also discussed broader avenues of cooperation:
· Military & Security: Collaboration with the Iraqi Ministries of Defense and Interior to supply modern defense systems.
· Consumer & Industrial Market: The significant presence of major Korean conglomerates such as Samsung, LG, and Hyundai in the Iraqi market.
· Future Horizons: Strengthening ties in energy, industry, and infrastructure to achieve sustainable development.
The session, which featured an interactive Q&A with the audience, is part of RCD’s ongoing efforts to enhance diplomatic communication and constructive dialogue by hosting ambassadors and prominent international figures.
