Al-Rafidain Center for Dialogue (RCD) held a virtual discussion seminar titled, "The Eighteenth Anniversary of the Political Change in Iraq: Paths and Outcomes."

The event featured the following speakers:

1.     Mr. Ghalib Hassan al-Shabandar: Researcher and thinker in political affairs.

2.     Sharif Ali bin al-Hussein: Head of the Constitutional Monarchy Movement in Iraq.

3.     Mr. Ayad al-Samarrai: Former Speaker of the Council of Representatives.

4.     Dr. Amer Hassan Fayadh: Dean of the College of Political Science, Al-Nahrain University.

5.     Dr. Talib Mohammed Karim: Member of the Board of Directors of Al-Rafidain Center for Dialogue (RCD).

Sharif Ali bin al-Hussein spoke first, stating that it is necessary to understand where the system that established the current political process came from, focusing on the American role in that foundation. Afterward, Mr. al-Samarrai delivered an address in which he explained the problematic and complex relationship between Iraq and the United States, which views Iraq as part of its project to reform the Middle East. He added that Iraq should not sever ties with America.

Mr. al-Shabandar stressed the necessity of balance in Iraq's relations with various countries in the world, especially the major powers. More importantly, he argued, Iraq must first possess the fundamental components of a state. Dr. Fayadh then stated that those who do not accept the Iraqi present after 2003 implicitly accept the past before this date, and vice versa, reasoning that Iraq deserves better than both its past and its present.

Dr. Karim spoke about Iraqi societal consciousness before 2003, the new spaces that became available after that year, and the degree of paradigmatic change that occurred.

Dr. Ahmed Sami Al-Mamouri, the seminar's moderator, concluded by describing the session as a scholarly and beneficial event that lasted for three hours and was attended by dozens of interested individuals from various specializations.
