Najaf Before Islam: Excavations in the Memory of the Region — New RCD Historical Study

Authored by Abd al-Amir al-Mu'min, the book sheds light on the deep civilizational depth and religious symbolism of this ancient city, looking beyond its well-known Islamic history to its ancient roots.
The book is divided into seven chapters that treat the region's history with academic rigor:
· Origins: An exploration of historical narratives, sources, and the linguistic and geographic connotations of the name "Najaf."
· Christian Heritage: A study of the pre-Islamic religious landscape, focusing on the monasteries and Christian communities that once thrived there.
· Landmarks: Detailed descriptions of famous historical sites such as Al-Ghariyan, the Sea of Najaf, and the legendary palaces of Al-Khawarnaq and Al-Sadeer.
· Geology: The book concludes with a discussion on modern archaeological findings and a special appendix dedicated to the geological formation of the Najaf plateau.
This work is described as a qualitative addition to the Najafi and Iraqi library. It seeks to "re-read" the hidden history of Najaf, building upon, and expanding, the efforts of renowned previous scholars such as Sheikh Jaafar Mahbouba, Dr. Mustafa Jawad, and Dr. Hassan Al-Hakim.
This publication underscores RCD's ongoing effort to print and distribute high-quality research, studies, translations, and articles. The Center aims to support decision-making institutions and the scientific, intellectual, and cultural development of the country with professionalism and accuracy.
