The Research and Development Department at Al-Rafidain Center for Dialogue (RCD) has announced the publication of a new translated volume titled Between State and Non-State: Politics and Society in Kurdistan-Iraq and Palestine.

Authored by scholars Gülistan Gürbey, Sabine Hofmann, and Ferhad Ibrahim Seyder, and translated into Arabic by Ali Al-Haris, the book offers a rigorous comparative analysis of two of the most significant non-state national movements in the Middle East.

The book contributes to the broader theoretical debate on statehood in the region, offering explanations for critical events and historical turning points.

·        Historical Trajectories: A precise tracking of the armed struggles for independence in both Kurdistan and Palestine.

·        Political Evolution: An examination of how political systems and institutions have developed in both regions, the obstacles to state-building, and the impact of internal polarization among leading factions.

·        Economic Divergence: The authors provide a detailed contrast between the economic openness and development witnessed in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq after 2003, versus the Palestinian economy, which remains plagued by financial dependency and structural entanglement with the Israeli economy.

This publication is part of RCD’s commitment to placing vital academic resources in the hands of researchers and students across Iraq and the Middle East.
