The 1999 Uprising and the Legacy of Sayyid Al-Sadr: New RCD Historical Study

Authored by a select group of researchers, the book documents the pivotal moment in modern Iraqi history sparked by the assassination of Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Mohammad Sadeq al-Sadr.
The book highlights the pioneering role Al-Sadr played in resisting the Ba'athist dictatorship. It delves into:
· Charismatic Authority: An analysis of his personality and his unique ability to connect with the disenfranchised masses.
· Scientific Journey: His academic standing within the Hawza Ilmiya (religious seminary).
· The Reform Project: His vision for social and religious reform that challenged the status quo.
The study is structured into six chapters that trace the timeline of the movement:
1. Biography: The life and formation of the Martyr Sadr.
2. The Movement: The rise of the "Sadrist" phenomenon and the interaction between the Hawza and Iraqi society.
3. Mobilization: The pivotal role of Friday Prayers (which he re-instituted) as a tool for political and social mobilization against tyranny.
4. The Assassination: Documenting the events of his killing, the various narratives surrounding it, and the immediate repercussions.
5. The 1999 Uprising: A detailed research into the popular revolt (Al-Sadr Intifada) that erupted in Baghdad and southern provinces immediately following his death.
6. Legacy: Tracing the impact of his movement on current political groups that view themselves as extensions of his path.
