Mr Zaid Al-Talqani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Al-Rafidain Center for Dialogue (RCD), met with the Ambassador of the State of Japan, Mr Matsumoto Hotoshi, and the Embassy's Secretary for Political Affairs, Mr Kida Ryuji, at the Center's Baghdad branch.

During the meeting, Al-Rafidain Center and the Center for Studies and International Relations of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated the signing of a memorandum of understanding. The ambassador emphasised that his country will participate in the work of the RCDFORUM with a high-level delegation in 2023 and that Japan has multiple programs with civil society organisations in Iraq, particularly in the areas of supporting youth and human rights and emphasising the development of communication channels with research centres and methods for transferring Japanese knowledge, expertise, and experiences to Iraq.

The two sides discussed climate change in the long term and its most important effects on the Iraqi people. His Excellency the Ambassador also expressed his appreciation for the RCD's projects, partnerships with international organisations, as well as its successes and his willingness to assist the centre in expanding its cooperation with think tanks, research, and academic institutions in the Japanese capital Tokyo.
